Lowry swimmers sweep Fernley in dual finale

The Lowry High School swim team closed out the regular season last Saturday in Minden with a sweep of Fernley. The boys routed the Vaqueros 124-22 and the Lady Bucks were victorious at 71-59.

Hallie Caratzola collected a first-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke at 1:21.31, four seconds quicker than her seed time. The senior was second in the 50-yard freestyle at 29.84.

Halle Sullivan led the way in the 500-yard freestyle at 7:54.63, while teammate Adya Goldblatt (7:54.84) was second. Sullivan was second in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:49.43 and Jennifer Milton (3:24.22) was fourth. Goldblatt (33.56) was fourth in the 50-yard freestyle.

The Lady Bucks won the only relay they competed in, claiming the 400-yard freestyle relay.

On the boys side, Alex Shurtliff led 1,2,3,4 finish in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:30.33. Kyle Cine, Evan Jeppsen and Emmanuel Guillon followed.

Liam Walls paced the field in the 50-yard freestyle at 25.53, and the 100-yard butterfly (1:07.78), while Nathan Perkinson was first in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 58.28.

Garrett Gray had the top time in the 100-yard backstroke at 1:08.13 and the senior was third in the 100-yard freestyle in a time of 1:01.07.

Hunter Lewis (29.56) and Tristan Miller (31.21) were third and fifth, respectively, in the 50-yard freestyle.

In addition, all three of the Lowry boys relay teams captured first place over Fernley.

The first day of the Northern 3A Regional Championships took part yesterday in Carson City. The meet concludes today. The top three finishers in each event qualify for the state championships in Carson City on Saturday, May 20.
