Obituary: David Charles Piquet

David Charles Piquet was born at St. Anthony Hospital in Pendleton, Oregon on April 5, 1944. He passed away peacefully in his sleep at his home on May 7, 2017. David was the eldest of triplet boys born to Ruth Porter Piquet and Virgil Charles Piquet, of Long Creek, Oregon.

David and his triplet brothers, Tebeau, Allen and older brother V.John (Virgil John) attended school in Long Creek. They were an active family, firmly entrenched in ranch work, 4H (David won 4-H horsemanship and showmanship 4 years running at the Grant County Fair), band and sports.

The triplets graduated from Long Creek High School in 1962. They all enrolled and attended Eastern Oregon College in LaGrande.

David volunteered for the U. S. Navy during his senior year at EOU, and he served in Viet Nam. By this time the family had sold the Oregon ranch and moved to a ranch outside of Golconda, Nevada.

David returned home to ranch, to participate in rodeo saddle bronc riding, to take up team roping, and to compete in snaffle bit futurities.

Along with ranching with his parents during their lifetime and his brother, Tebeau and family, these talents, skills and entertainments kept him busy the rest of his adult life, along with his passion for helping and coaching young people.

He married Shelley Osborne in 1978, and from this union his son Levi was born. Father and son shared many ranch activities, and Levi, like his dad, took up team roping at an early age. David rarely missed one of Levi’s competitions.

David was involved with many kids, as a Little League coach, an advisor, coach and teacher for the local high school rodeo teams, and good friend and confidante to his many nieces and nephews.

He was a member of the John Day Elks and various rodeo and roping organizations.

He is survived by his son Levi, wife Kristi and their daughter Mya, his brothers Tebeau and wife Gail of Winnemucca, Nevada, brother Allen and wife Terri of Hermiston, Oregon, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be held at the Winnemucca Convention Center East Hall on Saturday, May 13, 2017, at 11 a.m., with the viewing at 10 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be sent to the Humboldt County High School Rodeo, or any charity of your choice.
