The McDermitt High School track and field team made the short trip to Winnemucca Saturday morning to close out its regular season at the Lowry Invitational.
Freshman Ben Draunidalo secured a top-10 finish in the 100-meter dash, placing eighth with a time of 12.27 seconds, a personal best for him. In addition, Draunidalo finished 12th in the 800 meters with a time of 2:27.32, also a personal best.
Nash Pope (2:40.34) and Jace Ramsey (2:44.00) were 16th and 17th in the 800 meters. Freshman Jagger Hinkey had a throw of 30-3.75 to finish 21st in the shot put.
The 4x100 relay of Pope, Duane Horse, Draunidalo and Ramsey were sixth with a time of 51.25. The same foursome were seventh in the 4x200 relay at 1:48.09
McDermitt finished ninth as a team with 11 points. Elko won the meet with 353 points, while host Lowry was second at 288. Spring Creek (251) finished third and Pershing County (201) and Dayton (131) rounded out the top five.
McDermitt travels to Fallon on Saturday for the Northern 1A Trials. Those athletes that qualify in the trials advance to the Northern 1A Regional Championships in Carson City on May 12-13.
The top four finishers in the regional championship move on to the NIAA State Championships at Foothill High School in Henderson on May 19-20.
