For the first time this year, the Lowry High School track and field team did not have to board a bus for an earlier-morning road trip.
With Mother Nature helping out for once, the Buckaroos were at home this past weekend to host the Lowry Invitational. Both the boys and girls teams finished second to Elko, with the Buckaroos recording a number of individual first-place finishes.
Senior Kenadee Jeppsen swept the top spots in the high jump, long jump and 200 meters. Jeppsen kept her winning streak going in the high jump at 5 feet, 4 inches. She is the defending 3A state champion in the event. Jeppsen set a personal best in the long jump with a leap of 16-9. Jeppsen stopped the watch at 26.92 seconds in the 200 meters, also a personal best.
Sophomore Rachel Garrison paced the field in the discus with a toss of 120-11 and she was second in the shot put at 31-8.
Senior Madison Montero led the day in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.22 seconds and she was third in the pole vault, clearing the bar at 9-0.
Juniors Hailey Hinkle and Shelby Garrison tied for second in the high jump with marks of 4-10. Freshman Rylee Clement set a personal best at 4-8 and was fifth in the event. Hinkle added a third-place finish in the 400 meters at 1:02.38, a personal best for her. Clement was 10th in the pole vault at 5-6.
Becca Kuskie finished third in the 1,600 meters with a time of 5:44.71 and was fifth in the 3,200 meters at 12:37.66.
Audrey Snow was fourth in the 200 meters with a time of 27.43 and fifth in the 100 meters (13.63). Sophomore Lily Pasquale placed fourth in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 56.33 and she was sixth in the long jump with a leap of 13-10.
Freshman Julianna Gonzalez finished seventh in the 200 meters (28.41) and ninth in the 100 meters (14.19).
Lucero Ruiz was seventh in the long jump (13.7.50), 10th in the 400 meters (1:06.80), 12th in the 200 meters (29.21) and 15th in the 100 meters (14.74).
Ariana Galindo-Godinez (31.13) and Carly Capellen (31.72) were 17th and 19th in the 200 meters and Breanna Sowinski was 15th in the 800 meters (3:19.05) and 18th in the 400 meters (1:17.41).
Whitney Wiiley placed seventh in the dicus with a throw of 85-11 and eighth in the shot put at 26-5.
The 4x100 relay of Snow, Shelby Garrison. Hailey Fernandez and Montero were first with a time of 51.92. The same foursome lewd the way in the 4x200 relay with a time of 1:49.05. The 4x400 relay of Jeppsen, Fernandez, Montero and Shelby Garrison won with a time of 4:12.00.
Elko won with 366 points, Lowry (299.32) was second and Spring Creek (297) was third.
On the boys side, Erick Lopez set personal bests in the 100-meter dash and 200-meters on his way to first-place finishes. The junior had a time of 11.24 in the 100 and 22.71 in the 200 meters.
Bryan Terry swept the throwing events, winning the shot put by 10 feet with a throw of 51-6, which was a personal best. He tossed the discus 160-10.
Nathan Kepler posted a personal best in the high jump at 5-10 to place second. The junior also set a personal best mark in the long jump at 19-11 to finish second. Kepler had a third personal best in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 44.74 to place fourth.
Victor Rosas collected runner-up finishes in the 100 meters (11.47) and 200 meters (23.41), which were personal bests. Brandon Dowd was second in the pole vault, clearing 11-6.
Sophomore Will Kracaw placed third in the 1,600 meters with a time of 4:48,38, a personal best and he was fourth in the 800 meters at 2:15.40. Zachary White and Scottie Smith tied for fourth in the high jump at 5-4, while Jacob Frazier was sixth in the 100-meters with a personal-best time of 11.83.
Colby Terry and White tied for eighth in the pole vault at 9-0 and Erick Zamora was eighth in the shot put (36-2.50) and 10th in the discus (103.8).
Oscar Juanes (56.02), Jose Vera (57.08) and Smith (57.28) were sixth, ninth and 10th in the 400 meters and Raymond Orzech was ninth in the 200 meters (24.62) and 10th in the 100 meters (12.28).
Freshman Jace Mentaberry placed fifth in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 44.27 and Bryan Day was ninth at 47.27. In addition, Day was 10th in the pole vault at 8-6.
Octavio Ruiz was eighth in the 3,200 meters with a time of 12:49.93, Jacob Means was 10th (13:04.50) and Chris Esparza (13:20.40) was 11th. Hunter Albisu was 11th in the 1,600 meters (5:17.16) and Julian Fimbers was 13th with a time of 5:21.23.
The 4x100 relay of Timur Krapvin, Frazier, Rosas and Lopez were first in a time of 1:35.08. The 4x400 relay of Mentaberry, Juanes, Krapvin and Frazier were fourth at 3:49.37.
Lowry travels to Fallon on Saturday for the Northern 3A Trials.
