After a week off, the Battle Mountain High School softball team returned to action this past weekend in Yerington.
The Lions swept the three-game series, winning a doubleheader 10-5 and 19-10 on Friday and a single game on Saturday 17-12.
Battle Mountain jumped out to an early 5-2 lead after two innings of play in the opener on Friday, but the offense went silent in the final five innings. Yerington took the lead for good with four runs in the fifth inning and added four more runs in the sixth.
Yulisa Vazquez had a team-high three hits and two runs scored for the Lady Longhorns. Marissa Rogers added two hits and two RBI. Jonni Davis, McKenna Jones, Liscet Diaz, Jenna Leavitt and Riane Schroeder each had one hit.
Battle Mountain scored twice in the first inning to go in front in the second game of the doubleheader. Yerington cut the deficit in half in the bottom of the first inning and then scored eight times in the second to go in front 9-2.
The offenses continued to dominate the action, as the Lady Longhorns countered with four runs in the third and three more in the fourth.
However, Yerington answered back with three runs in each of the third and fourth innings. The Lions put the game out of reach with four runs in the sixth inning.
Jones had four hits and six RBI for Battle Mountain and Diaz and Rogers each had two hits.
Battle Mountain claimed the lead for the third straight game in the series, jumping out to a 3-0 advantage in the second inning. Yerington tied the game in the second and took the lead in the third with five runs.
The Lady Longhorns tied the game with five runs in the fourth inning, only to see the Lions plate nine runs in the bottom of the frame to collect the win and sweep.
Chavira and Vazquez each had three hits and Rogers and Jones had two hits each.
Battle Mountain (7-9 Northern 2A hosted West Wendover on Tuesday. Results were not available at press time. The Lady Longhorns travel to West Wendover on Friday for a doubleheader at 2 p.m.
