Jeppsen wins high jump at Fallon Elks Invite

The Lowry High School track and field team made its way to Fallon last Saturday for the 45th annual Fallon Elks Invitational.

Out of a large field of nearly 25 teams from throughout Nevada, Kenadee Jeppsen took the top spot in the high jump, as she cleared 5 feet, 4 inches. Teammate Shelby Garrison was third in the event at 4-11. In addition, Garrison was ninth in the 200 meters with a time of 28.22.

Sophomore Rachel Garrison posted a fourth-place finish in the discus with a toss of 118 feet, 9 inches and was 11th in the shot put at 30-4.50.

Senior Madison Montero placed seventh in the pole vault, clearing the bar at 9-0 and she was seventh in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.34. Audrey Snow finished seventh in the 200 meters at 28.14, while Lily Pasquale was 18th in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 55.61.

Hailey Fernandez placed 13th in the 200 meters with a time of 28.36 and Becca Kuskie was 24th in the 1,600 meters (5:58.94) and 27th in the 800 meters (2.44.98). Whitney Willey finished 18th in the shot put (27.05.75) and 18th in the discus at 81-09.

The 4x200 relay team of Snow, Shelby Garrison, Fernandez and Montero were third with a time of 1:50.23. The foursome was fourth in the 4x100 relay at 52.27.

The Lowry girls were seventh as a team with 37.5 points, but second among Northern 3A schools. Reed won the team title with 122 points and Damonte Ranch was second with 6 points. McQueen and Spanish Springs tied for third with 49 points and Truckee was fifth with 47 points.

On the boys side, senior Bryan Terry collected two third place finishes in the shot put (47-10.75) and the discus (151-06). Brandon Dowd placed fourth in the pole vault, as he cleared 12-6.

Junior Erick Lopez placed seventh in the 200 meters with a time of 23.20 and was eighth in the 100-meter dash at 11.50. Nathan Kepler added a top-10 finish, as he was ninth in the high jump at 5-6. Victor Rosas was 11th in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.68 and 15th in the 200 meters at 24.09.

Will Kracaw placed 20th in the 3,200 meters with a time of 10:55.65 and was 22nd in the 800 meters (2:15.47) and 27th in the 1,600 meters (4:56.03). Bryan Day (46.37) and Jace Mentaberry (47.40) were 22nd and 23rd in the 300-meter hurdles and Erick Zamora was 23rd in the discus with a toss of 108-10.

The 4x100 relay of Jacob Frazier, Timur Krapvin, Rosas and Lopez were fourth in a time of 45.74. Frazier, Krapvin, Celso Ruiz and Lopez were fifth in the 4x200 relay at 1:35.75.

The Buckaroo boys placed 10th in the team standings with 29 points. Damonte Ranch was second with 92 points, McQueen finished third at 64 and Elko (49) and Fernley (39) rounded out the top five.

At the High Desert Frosh/Soph. Invitational at McQueen High School on Friday, March 24, Mentaberry won the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 44.08 and he was seventh in the 110-meter hurdles at 18.78.

Zach White posted runner-up finishes in the high jump (5-4) and pole vault (9-6), while teammates Scottie Smith (5-4) and Anthony Barber (5-4) were second and third, respectively, in the high jump.

Kolby Terry (7-6) and Barber (7-6) were eight and ninth in the pole vault, and Eddie Sanchez tossed the shot put 37-1 to place eight and the discus 99-3 to finish ninth.

For the Lady Bucks, Ashley Salgado was third in the discus at 71-4 and eighth in the discus with a throw if 24-8. Pasquale finished fourth in the 300-meter hurdles at 59.24 and Rylee Clement finished fifth in the high jump at 4-4.

Lowry is in Sparks this weekend for the Reed Rotary Invitational.
