Longhorn baseball team crushes Mustangs in doubleheader sweep in Battle Mountain

After dropping two of its first three league games to North Tahoe, the Battle Mountain High School baseball team bounced back in a big way this past Saturday with two home wins over rival Pershing County.

The Longhorns won game one 19-4 and provided a shutout in game two by a score of 14-0 to improve to 3-2 in the Northern 2A.

Battle Mountain scored six runs in the first inning of the doubleheader. They kept up the pace throughout the contest. Pershing County had nine errors to Battle Mountain’s two.

Battle Mountain launched the second game of the doubleheader by scoring six runs. Neither team scored in the second and third inning. But the Longhorns sealed their win with eight runs in the fourth inning.

On Tuesday, Pershing County hosted Battle Mountain for a makeup game. Results were not available at press time.

The two teams were scheduled to play on Tuesday, March 21, but the game was postponed due to weather.

Battle Mountain hosts White Pine in a doubleheader on Friday at 2 p.m. The two schools play a single game on Saturday at 10 a.m.
