Lady Longhorns drops two games to Mustangs

The Battle Mountain High School softball team took on the defending 2A state champions this past weekend a dropped a pair of games to Pershing County on Saturday.

The Mustangs won the opening game 21-0 and the nightcap 18-0. The Lady Longhorns dropped to 3-2 in the Northern 2A and 5-3 overall.

In game one, Pershing County led 3-0 after two innings of play, but scored nine runs apiece in the third and fourth innings to end the game in the fourth inning as part of the NIAA mercy rule.

Liscet Diaz and Jenna Leavitt each had one hit for the Lady Longhorns. McKenna Jones and Sarah Berumen shared time in the pitching circle. Jones was tagged with the loss in 2.1 innings of work.

In the nightcap, Pershing County scored three times in the opening frame, but pulled away in the third and fourth innings with a combined 14 runs.

Marissa Rogers and Leavitt each had a hit for Battle Mountain Jones and Yulisa Vazquez split the time in the circle, with Jones taking the loss.

Battle Mountain was scheduled to go to Lovelock on Tuesday, March 21, but that game was postponed due to weather. It was made up this past Tuesday and results were not available at press time.

Battle Mountain is back home this weekend to host White Pine, starting with a doubleheader on Friday at 2 p.m. T

The two teams will play a single game on Saturday at 10 a.m. in Battle Mountain.

The Lady Longhorns return home to play Incline on Friday, April 7.
