The Battle Mountain High School track and field team was in Elko on Saturday, March 18, for a league track meet.
The Longhorns produced a number of strong performances on the day.
On the boys side, sophomore Austin Wilkins ran the 100-meter dash in a time of 12.12 seconds. He crossed the finish line in 25.15 in the 200 meters and had a leap of 16-10 in the long jump.
Cody Ostler and David Chavez had times of 23.96 and 25.72 in the 200 meters. In addition, Chavez had a toss of 32-4 in the shot put and jump of 16-0.50 in the long jump and Ostler a leap of 18-0 min the long jump. Sophomore Ryan Manning had a time of 2:59.74 in the 800 meters, while freshman Thomas Amezcua ran the 1,600 meters in 5:49 and had a throw of 23-9 in the shot put.
Junior Eddie Morfin paced the throwers with a toss of 29-3.50 in the shot put and 117-9 in the discus. Ryan Manning cleared 7-6 in the pole vault.
On the girls side, four Lady Longhorns ran in the 100 meters, with Mary Wolters leading the way at 14.40. Aubrie Schmidt had a time of 14.59 and was followed by Justine Jury (16.27) and Kynndra Pearson (16.37). Schmidt also cleared 4-2 in the high jump.
Wolters was busy on the day, running the 400 meters in a time of 69.96 and throwing the shot put 18-4.
Samantha Broadway was in three events, and throws of 23-2 in the shot put and 65-10 in the discus. She ran the 400 meters in a time of 93.24.
Junior Jade Smith stopped the clock at 59.14 in the 300-meter hurdles, to go with marks of 11-7.50 and 25-9.50 in the long jump and triple jump respectively.
Adriene Burkhart had throws of 15-7 in the shot put and 32-10 in the discus, while Hania Amezcua cleared 6-6 in the pole vault and a leap of 10-5 in the long jump.
Battle Mountain back in Elko on Friday for the Elko Kiwanis Invitational.
