Lady Longhorns win three home games against North Tahoe

The Battle Mountain High School softball team began the Northern 3A schedule on a high this past weekend with three wins against North Tahoe in Battle Mountain.

Battle Mountain won the first game of the series 10-0 on Friday and swept a doubleheader on Saturday 17-4 and 10-3.



Lady Longhorns shut out Lakers

Battle Mountain scored four runs in each of the first two innings and never looked back. Alma Chavira had two hits and three RBI for the Lady Longhorns. Jonni Davis and Jenna Leavitt each had one hit and two RBI. Riane Schroeder, Julia Ramirez and Yulissa Vazquez had one hit apiece.

McKenna Jones earned the win in the circle and did not allow a hit. She struck out five and walked one.



Battle Mountain crushes North Tahoe

North Tahoe scored twice in the top of the first inning, but it was all Battle Mountain from there. The Longhorns tied the game in the bottom of the first inning, and scored four runs apiece in the second and third innings to lead 10-2. The Longhorns closed out the game with six runs in the fifth inning to win by the 10-run rule.

Liscet Diaz led Battle Mountain with four hits and a RBI. Marissa Rogers, Davis, Ramirez, Jones and Vazquez all had two hits. Rogers and Schroeder had three RBI apiece.

Kira Smith went the distance in the circle for the Lady Longhorns to earn the win. She allowed four runs (two earned) on six hits. Smith struck out 11 and walked three.



BMHS claims series finale

Battle Mountain dominated the final contest from the start, scoring five runs apiece in the first and second innings to lead 10-1.

Davis, Jones, Diaz and Schroeder had two hits apiece. Chavira, Ramirez, Diaz, Leavitt and Schroeder had two RBI each.

Jones picked up the win for Battle Mountain. She allowed three runs (one earned) on two hits. She struck out six and walked four. Vazquez threw the final two innings and had three strikeouts.

Battle Mountain took on Pershing County on Tuesday and results were not available at press time. The Lady Longhorns host the Lady Mustangs on Saturday at 10 a.m. in a doubleheader.
