The Lowry High School softball team wasted little time in making a statement in its first Northern 3A series of the year.
The Lady Bucks were in Spring Creek this past weekend and outscored the Spartans 50-1 in a three-game sweep to improve to 5-3 overall and 3-0 in the Northern 3A. Lowry won 12-0 on Friday and 22-1 and 16-0 on Saturday in a doubleheader.
Lowry claims opener over Spartans
Lowry scored a pair of runs in the first inning and did not look back in the blow out victory. The Lady Bucks extended the advantage to 6-0 in the fourth and 11-0 in the fifth inning.
Sophomore Macey Katzenmeyer scattered three hits through five innings to get the win in the circle. She struck out six and walked one.
Alyssa Kuskie and Sydney Connors each had three hits. Kuskie drove in three runs. Connors had a home run and scored three runs. Senior Tiana Herrera had two hits and two RBI and sophomore Madi McCellan had two hits and three RBI. Kyllie Sappington and Alanna Miller each had one hit.
Lady Bucks crush Spartans
The new 15-run rule after five innings came into effect in Saturday’s opening game, as Lowry cruised to a 22-1 victory.
The Lady Bucks turned the batting over in the first inning and jumped out to a 9-0 lead. The only run of the weekend for Spring Creek came in the bottom of the first inning on a solo home run by Ashley Bodin.
Sylvie Prokasky settled in from there for the Lady Bucks and scattered seven hits to collect the win. She struck out two and walked none.
The rout continued into the second inning with eight more runs and the Lady Bucks added five runs in the third inning
Lowry pounded out 19 hits, as freshman Kelcey Cooper was the hitting star going 2-for-3, with a home run, four RBI and three runs scored.
Bailey Sapien, McClellan, Kuskie and Connors had three hits apiece. The foursome combined for eight RBI and 10 runs scored. Sappington and Miller each had two hits.
Lowry finishes sweep
Lowry was looking to end the game early again, scoring seven times in the finale in the first inning. The game did conclude in the fifth inning, as part of the 10-run rule.
Katzenmeyer was dominant in the circle once again, allowing just one hit in five innings. She struck out five and walked none.
The Lady Bucks pounded out the hits once again, with Miller, Sappington and Kuskie each had three hits. Connors hit her second home run of the series and Sappington had three RBI. McClellan added two hits and two RBI. Amaya Herrera, Tiana Herrera and Cooper had one hit apiece.
Lowry will look to remain undefeated in league play this weekend at Sparks. The opener is Friday at 4 p.m. and a doubleheader follows on Saturday at 11 a.m.
The Lady Bucks will make their home debut against Elko on Friday, March 31, at 4 p.m.
