The Winnemucca Junior High School wrestling were at home last Saturday to host a Tah-Neva qualifier that featured schools from Battle Mountain, Pershing County, Hawthorne, Silver Springs and Fernley.
Winnemucca qualified all 38 of its wrestlers for the Tah-Neva Championships today (Saturday) at Pershing County High School in Lovelock.
The eighth-grade squad had five individual champions in Issac Mori at 95 pounds, Julian Esquivel (100), Anthony Peterson (105), Caden Ricci (110) and Alberto Medina (140).
Jadon Fetty (85), Lance Dove (115), Anthony Gildone (120), Adam Dossey (135) and Kole Mattson (175) earned runner-up finishes. Hunter Mullins (100), Colton VonAspern (115), Diego Manzo (120) and Dominic Hill (heavyweight) were third. Colton Brooks (125) and Exavier Ceballos (heavyweight) placed fourth.
The seventh-grade team had four champions, starting with French Ford students Coda Nichols (70) and Brayden Casalez (80). Both are sixth-graders. Kristofer Logue (85) and Angel Huerta (105) were also crowned champions.
Felix Munoz (75), Kaiden Boyles (80), Wade Mori (85), Damon Fetty (100), David Hunter (100), Omar Castaneda (120) and Merril Terry (165) were second.
Yahir Avalos (70), Christopher Gildone (75), Kaylub Prather (80), Jordan Wirthlin (90), Luke Fentress (105), Jesse Hawkins (105) and Roan Hornbarger (125) were third. Joseph VanKuiken (80), Chandler Leiter (105), Isaiah VanKuiken (115) and Avery Wirthlin (120)were fourth.
The Tah-Neva Championships get underway at 9 a.m. today (Saturday) in Lovelock.
