The Battle Mountain Junior High School wrestlers were back on the road again last Saturday as they made the short trip to Winnemucca for their third tournament of the season.

Every time out, the action has been intense as all the kids look to get ready for the end of the season Tah-Neva Championships.

This past weekend’s qualifying tournament in Winnemucca was no exception as the Shorthorns battled their way to a number of high finishes individually and a pair of team runner-up spots.

“The kids have been working real hard all season and they are starting to peak right now,” said coach Mitch Domagala. “We’ve been putting them up against the toughest competition in the state trying to challenge them. That’s been the trademark for this group, the more that’s asked of them the better they perform.”

As the day came to a conclusion, Battle Mountain placed 23 wrestlers in the top four qualifying them for the Tah-Neva League Championships this Saturday in Lovelock.

Jagger Whitlock, Chris Leloup, Stone Whitlock, Hunter Natoli, Zach Duggan, Declan McClary, Jose Guizar, Jordan Gonzalez, Joey Huhta and Lyle Whitten were crowned champions.

Sean Scherer, Wiatt Kelly, Andy Wall, Hafen Smith and Hunter Andersen finished as runner-ups.

Drayden McClary, Isaiah Powell and Logan Youngblood claimed the bronze medal, while Asher Bundrock, Dalton Shake, Brice Domagala, Deacon Kyllonen and Nolan Chopp came home in fourth place.

“Placing in this tournament qualifies these kids to represent Battle Mountain in the Junior High Championships. This is a privilege they earned with a lot of hard work,” added Domagala.

Also wrestling were Anthony Natoli, Vincent Rosas and Michael Lovelace.

“This group of wrestlers worked hard all season,” Domagala said. “They had successes, but unfortunately things didn’t go their way this weekend.”
