The Battle Mountain High School boys golf team opened its season with an 18-hole icebreaker tournament in Hawthorne last Friday.
Brody Young and Austin Wallock paced the Longhorns with rounds of 96 and 97, respectively. Alex Lopez carded a 101 for Battle Mountain and Connor Rochester shot a 117. Jacob Turner (118) and Zach Heese (122) rounded out the scores for the Longhorns.
“The Icebreaker tournament is a nice way to get the season started,” said coach Roger Wallock. “It is usually nice weather on a fun course and we get to play golf in early March in a tournament setting without the pressure of a regular tournament. We have some potential to be competitive this year but we had only been practicing for a week and these scores showed it.”
Battle Mountain is back on the course on Wednesday, March 15, at West Wendover.
