Silver State International Rodeo begins Monday

Winnemucca will be the center of attention next week in the rodeo world, as the 32nd Annual Silver State International Rodeo brings hundreds of junior high and high school contestants from around the West and Canada.

A handful of Humboldt County Club members will be participating on their home turf.

Contestants that finish fifth through 15th in their final state and province point standings are eligible to compete in the Silver State International Rodeo.

Julianne Montero qualified in barrel racing and breakaway roping. She finished fifth in the final Nevada barrel race point standings and 13th in breakaway roping.

Cade Bell will take part in steer wrestling, cutting and reined cow horse. He finished sixth in steer wrestling during the year and was eighth and 13th, respectively, in cutting and reined cow horse.

Older brother Quint Bell, is competing in cutting and tie-down roping. Bell finished the year sixth in cutting and 10th in tie-down roping. The duo also qualified in team roping.

Danielle Draper is competing in reined cow horse and in team roping with Battle Mountain’s Kaylee Filippini.

Alyssa Nimmick will try her luck in pole bending. Chris Gleason qualified in rifle and Marie Curtis and Seth Duncan will compete in trap shooting.

Battle Mountain’s Dally Goemmer and Riata Goemmer, who were first and second in the Nevada all-around standings, will be in Winnemucca as well.

Riata Goemmer will compete in barrel racing, goat tying, pole bending, reined cow horse and team roping.

Dally Goemmer qualified for barrel racing, breakaway roping, girls cutting, reined cow horse and team roping.

On the junior high side, Kayla Curtis (breakaway) and Lexi Garijo (pole bending) will compete for Humboldt County.

The first performance takes place on Monday at 7 p.m. at the Winnemucca Events Complex.

There will be two performances Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday at 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. The top-15 finals performance will take place Saturday at 11 a.m.

The awards ceremony will follow at 4 p.m. The Silver State International Rodeo queen will be crowned on Friday at 6 p.m.
