On Father’s Day June 18, in Kingston 46 shooters took the course together to compete for cash, guns and other assorted prizes. A hundred rounds of sporting clays were shot during the competition.
Ann and John Miles, owners of the Miles End Lodge, proudly hosted the Father’s Day clay shoot for the 10th straight year.
It’s an event that has attracted quite the crowd, as 46 competitors paid the $50 entry fee. Shooters got some bang for their buck though — as breakfast, lunch and dinner are provided for the competitors and there are games the whole family is welcome to enjoy.
“The day starts with the sign-in and biscuits and gravy, a short safety meeting, then everyone goes out to the course together," said Ann Miles. " Midway through the 100 rounds, everyone stops for lunch on the course. After shooters finish, they head back to Miles End for a cocktail, horseshoes, and a BBQ dinner.”
Friends and family were encouraged to join in and enjoy both steaks or burgers. Ultimately, the Miles End Lodge provided 75 meals for their guests.
The top gun and highest scorer for the day was Jeff Dinsmore who scored an 82 on the day. Dinsmore was followed by second place shooter Dave Crawford and third place Shooter Jerry Fontes.
“We want to acknowledge our volunteers that help us put on this event, as we could not have done it without them,” Miles said. He gave special accolades to Jerry White from Perdiz Shooting Course in Eureka, who brings trap throwers, clays and prizes.
Although the event based on a shooting competition, it represents more of a family experience, according to Miles.
“It’s always fun, as it should be, and everyone seems to enjoy the annual event,” he said.
Miles End Lodge has set up a friendly fun event for dads and their families to have a little fun, taking a Sunday with dad to a whole new level, one clay shot at a time.
The Miles End Lodge will also be hosting another big event the first Saturday of August, when the lodge host the Kingston Annual Fireman’s picnic and fundraiser. Miles said, “‘Elvis’ will be there, and after the picnic and will play a free show at the Miles End Lodge.”
