The Battle Mountain Little League all-star softball team held a car wash at Bakker’s Brew this past Friday, in hopes of raising money to make the trip to the regional tournament in Montana.
Coaches Ron Pacheco and Cammie Holland helped lead the teenage girls to win the Little League state championships and they will be moving to the next round in Missoula, Mont.
The games will take place from July 21-July 26.
Pacheco is hoping to raise most of the money needed during the Fourth of July celebration. Pacheco and Holland are determined to get the girls the opportunity they deserved, after accomplishing so much already.
“We are also going to have a booth at the park during the Fourth of July to sell hot dogs, bratwurst and sausages,” Pacheco said.
There squad includes 13 girls and two coaches and they are trying to raise enough money to pay for hotels, food, any playing fees required and transportation to and from Montana.
Winning the state tournament is quite the accomplishment, although paying for the Montana trip is not any easier.
Battle Mountain was in full support of the all-stars, as cars lined up quickly. School board member Liz Diaz arrived early at the coffee shop to get her vehicle scrubbed clean for the day.
A Lander County Sheriff’s Department officer also showed support for the team.
The girls were ready to work and did so with a smile, as the team showed why they had made it so far in the tournament with the camaraderie clearly on display while washing cars.
Holland and Pacheco were right in the thick of it with the girls as they supervised the action and assisted with the cleaning duties.
