Summer theater for kids kicks off June 19 with ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’

Northern Nevada Arts Council and Missoula Children’s Theatre present two musical theater workshops beginning June 19.

The first production, “Jack and the Beanstalk” ranges from June 19 - 24. Auditions take place Monday, June 19 at 10 a.m. Rehearsals will take place Monday from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. and Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to noon and again from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. There will also be free workshops Tuesday through Thursday from 2:45 to 3 p.m. Dress rehearsal will be Saturday June 24 at 10 a.m. with the final performances of “Beanstalk” that same day at 3 and 7 p.m.

All auditions, rehearsals, workshops and performances will be held in the Lowry High School auditorium.

If you miss out on “Beanstalk,” the second production will be “Cinderella” occurring July 24-29, with performances Saturday July 29 at 3 and 7 p.m. Auditions for this play will take place Monday July 24. Rehearsals and workshops will run on the same days of the week and times of day as “Beanstalk.”

The cost is $25 for first child in the family, $20 each for additional children in same family. DVDs and T-shirts will be available for purchase from the directors.

Children must be available for all rehearsals and performances; rehearsal time is short and the children learn a lot, so any absences will affect the quality of the entire performance. Children should bring a sack lunch and bottled water each day, as they will be at rehearsal over lunchtime, which is noon to 12:30. There usually isn’t enough time for children to go off-campus for lunch and return in time to start afternoon rehearsals. All rehearsals will start promptly on time.
