A gathering of family and friends celebrated the life of Susan Whiting Jarboe who passed away on May 16, 2017. Susie succumbed to a second stroke from which she did not recover. She was born on October 9, 1951, in Baton Rouge, Lousiana, the first child of Don Arnold of Arizona who died in 1953 in service of his country and Betty Gill from England. Susan is survived by her husband Richard Jarboe of Lovelock and her brother Donald (Gypsy) Arnold of Tennessee. Susan was the proud mother of three daughters: Samantha Thurm of Gardnerville, Micheal Whiting of Carson City, and Anne Kapsoft of Dallas, Texas. Her family also included four grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Having served in the United States Army, Susan was laid to rest at the Veteran’s Cemetery in Fernley on May 30, 2017.
Most of her friends remember Suzi as a school bus driver. She drove for Pershing, Douglas, and Washoe counties for over 20 years. One of her favorite social groups was the local quilting club with whom she made dozens of beautiful quilts. Most, however, will remember her undeniable love of horses. For years Suzi was an endurance rider. She once took First Place in a 50-mile endurance event. She loved to show at the Paint Horse Association competitions.
Susan Jarboe was a good-hearted soul who would extend a helping hand to friends and strangers alike. Before her first stroke, Susie enjoyed life with her family and friends. Her spirited smile will be missed by all who walked beside her in this life.
Her husband Richard Jarboe wishes to thank those who helped with the celebration of Suzi’s life memorial. Special thanks is extended to Donald Arnold for his kind and memorable words about our Suzi, the American Legion for their assistance with the Fernley services, and Altar Society of St. John’s Church in Lovelock for coordinating the Suzi’s memorial in Lovelock.
