July 12
Charges of hit and run property damage against Dylan Thomas Searle were amended by the Humboldt County DA’s office to failure to use due care. He was fined $100 + $95 AA.
James Jay Nichols pleaded guilty to petit larceny. He was fined $1,000 + $140 AA. The judge suspended payment of $500 on condition of no further like violations and no further problems with the law other than minor traffic violations. The defendant may substitute 5 hours of community service a month or 10 hours total for the fines owed. The judge gave Nichols the option of completing an online petit larceny course and upon completion the court would give him double the cost of the class as credit toward his fines and fees.
Elizabeth Primrose Vanisi agreed to plead guilty to speeding 11-20 miles over the limit. She was fined $150 + $95. An additional charge of driving while license canceled/suspended or revoked was dismissed on a motion by the Humboldt County DA’s office.
A felony charge against James Michael Westbrook Jr. of fraudulent use of a credit card illegally possessed were amended to a misdemeanor charge of petit larceny. Westbrook was fined $1,000 + $140 AA. The defendant had served 41 days in jail and was given credit for time served in lieu of the fine.
July 13
Feleti Latu Sekona pleaded guilty to a charge of obstructing a public officer. he was fined $1,00 + $140 AA. He was given $200 credit for two days served in jail and the remaining $940 was suspended for six months on condition the defendant have no further violations of the law. His bail was forfeited. In a separate case, Sekona pleaded guilty to possession of false identification. The DA’s office motioned to dismiss the case and Judge Letty Norcutt did so. His bail with regard to this charge was forfeited.
Jesse Michael Simpson pleaded guilty to attempting to obtain money under false pretenses. He was sentenced to 90 days in jail with 60 days suspended for one year under condition he serve 30 days in jail, no alcohol, no controlled substances, and no further violations of the law other than minor traffic violations.
July 14
Jessica Rae Kincaid was found guilty in a bench trial of failure to obey a police officer and illegal u-turn. She was fined $200 + $105AA for failure to obey a police officer and fined $50 + $65 AA for illegal u-turn. $115 of the fines will be suspended for three months on condition she have no further violations of the law.
July 17
Sammy Joslin Guilbert-Kepler pleaded guilty to DUI-1. An additional charge for having no tail lights was dismissed. She was sentenced to 30 days in jail with 28 days stayed on condition she serve two days. She was given credit for 12 hours time served. She was fined $400 + $125 AA + $60 forensic fee + $100 Special DUI Fee. DUI School and Victim Impact Panel were ordered. Defendant is to have to alcohol, no controlled substances unless prescribed by a physician and no further criminal activity other than minor traffic violations.
Katherine E. Grantham pleaded guilty to speeding. She was fined $100 + $95 AA. The judge suspended the fines and fees for 3 months on condition the defendant have no further violations of the law.
Benjamin Phillip Petras pleaded guilty to breach of peace. He was fined $250 + $105 AA. He was given $200 credit for two days time served. The remaining $155 balance on his fines was suspended for three months on condition he has no further violations of the law.
Jamie Lee Kenney pleaded guilty to breach of peace. She was fined $250 + $105 AA. She was given credit for four days served in jail in lieu of payment for the fines.
July 18
Charges against Ramiro Perez for failing to stop on signal of a peace officer were dismissed without prejudice on a motion by the Humboldt County DA’s office.
