Even though the start of school is a month away, the beginning of the high school sports season is upon us.
The Lowry High School football team kicks off the season on Wednesday, Aug. 2, with four days of heat acclimatization practices at the high school.
Mandatory practices will start on Aug. 2 and run Saturday, Aug. 5, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.
During this time, athletes may not participate in more than one practice per day.
Double days start Monday, Aug. 7, from 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. with an hour break in between 9:30 a.m. — 10:30 a.m. Double days go to Aug. 18, followed by a scrimmage on Saturday, Aug. 19 against Elko in Winnemucca. Contact drills can begin on Thursday, Aug. 10.
The Buckaroos are under the direction of third-year head coach Taua Cabatbat. Lowry will play 10 games this season.
The Buckaroos open the year at Battle Mountain on Friday, Aug. 25, with the JV team kicking off at 4:30 p.m. and the varsity squad at 7 p.m.
Lowry makes its home debut on Friday, Sept. 1, against Spring Creek at 7 p.m.
The Buckaroos will be back home to take on Fernley on Friday, Sept. 8, at 7 p.m.
Lowry hits the road for a Northern 3A test in Truckee on Friday, Sept. 15 at 7 p.m.
The Buckaroos return to Winnemucca on Sept. 2 and go back to Lake Tahoe on Sept. 29 at South Tahoe.
Homecoming will be celebrated on Friday, Oct. 6, against Dayton.
Lowry is on the road for two weeks in a row (Elko, Oct. 13) and (Sparks, Oct. 20).
The regular season concludes at home against Churchill County on Thursday, Oct. 26.
The Northern 3A playoffs start on Friday, Nov. 3.
