Scott J Putnam, age 93, passed away at his home on January 7, 2017. He was preceded in death by Lorraine Oreno his wife of 69 years.
Scott had a full and interesting life. He went to grammar school in Georgetown, California and graduated from Christian Brothers High School in Sacramento, California. His mother Ellamerie was a mining engineer, so as a young man Scott worked in that profession.
In 1942 Scott was drafted into the Army. He served in the 155th Engineer Combat Battalion and was discharged in December 1945. After WWII, Scott worked with his mother at the Alabama mine near Davy Town.
In 1950 Scott hired out on the Western Pacific Railroad as a locomotive fireman and retired in 1985 as a locomotive engineer for the Union Pacific.
After retirement, Scott spent many days farming in Grass Valley. He and Lorraine also spent many relaxing summers at their home in Midas. He liked to hunt, fish and socialize with the “old timers.”
Scott is survived by his three children: Jerry Putnam (Susan), Ginger (Norm Sweeney) and Jeff Putnam (DiAn), his grandchildren Tammie Elges (Gary), Philip Gabiola (Christina), Dustin (Erin) and Bryce Putnam. There are six great grandchildren and two great- great grandchildren.
Scott requested that there be no services.
