Obituary: David Curtis Ongert

David Curtis Ongert, 58, of Winnemucca passed away on November 27, 2016 at RENOWN Hospital in Reno, Nevada after losing his battle with a lengthy illness.

David was born in Urbana, Ohio on September 29, 1958 to Ernie and Jackie Ongert. His family moved several times for his father’s work to Maryland, Hawaii, Florida and Nevada. After graduating from Arundel High School in Maryland David went on to complete his studies and became a slot technician and moved to Winnemucca to work for Wild West Enterprises with Bob Cashell, Tim Bengochea and Larry Tiller.

He joined Tim and Larry when they purchased the Model T Casino and ran the slot department later becoming the General Manager. He was very involved in the community with events and promotions. He always looked forward to Run-a-mucca every year helping to organize the Memorial Gathering. David was an avid reader of current events and read newspapers daily. Watching football was also a passion.

David is survived by the love of his life Sandy, daughters Jessica Freedom Lambert, Ashley Kristin McHenry and his son Dylan Curtis Ongert; grandchildren Ayson Brooke Waller, Jaron Colt Waller, Aymen Jerame Lambert, Gage Dylan Wiltze and Kristin Rene McHenry: his parents Ernie and Jackie Ongert and sister Karen Ongert. He was preceded in death by his brother John Ongert.

He will always be remembered for his smiling face and a helping hand to all his customers, friends and employees.

A memorial service for David will be held on Friday January 20, 2017 at 2:00 pm at the Winnemucca Convention Center East Hall.
