After having an unexpected weekend off in the middle of the season, the Lowry High School girls basketball team was back on the home floor this weekend.
At the beginning of the season, the Sparks basketball team disbanded its freshmen and junior varsity teams for the school year, due to a lack of players.
However, the varsity squad was still playing, but informed Lowry early last Friday, it did not have enough players and had to forfeit the game.
"We were looking forward to playing on our home floor," said LHS coach Chelsea Cabatbat. "We got new uniforms this year, and we have worn our home white's once. The girls want to be in their white uniforms on their home floor."
Lowry was scheduled to play Dayton on Friday in Winnemucca. Results were not available at press time.
Entering this weekend, Lowry was in sole possession of second place in the Northern 3A at 4-1. Churchill County is first at 7-0, while Elko (402) and Spring Creek (3-3) are third and fourth, respectively. South Tahoe (202) and Fernley (2-4) are fifth and sixth.
The top six teams advance to the regional tournament in Winnemucca on Feb. 16-18.
The Lady Bucks are back on their home floor today (Saturday). The junior varsity starts at 10 a.m. and the varsity tips off at 1 p.m.
The freshmen team, which has had a tough time finding games this yea travels to South Tahoe today for a 10 a.m. tip.
In an effort to get more games, Lowry will be holding a round-robin jamboree on Saturday, Jan. 28.
