Obituary: Wanda Lou Broadway

Wanda Lou Broadway was called to Heaven on December 31, 2016 at the age of 66 in Battle Mountain, Nevada. She was a fighter that had overcome breast cancer twice and was fighting ALS for over seven years when the average life expectancy is two to five years from the time of diagnosis and as we all know she put the bar way above average. She put up a good fight, proving to her daughters once again that she was indeed the strongest woman they have ever met.

Wanda was born the first child of Edward and Betty Stewart in Superior, Arizona on July 22, 1950. After growing up in Arizona, Edward packed up Wanda and her two siblings and moved to Battle Mountain, when he was transferred to work at a local mine in the area 1965. She graduated with the class of 1968 from Battle Mountain High and then went to becoming a license Hairdresser in 1970 after studying under her mother.

During the next period of her life, Wanda moved around quite a bit but always tried to make the best of life and teach her daughters how to become two independent and strong women. She also taught these two daughters about God, family, and the love of the outdoors while camping and fishing.

After moving back to Battle Mountain in 1997, she met Thomas Broadway, a fellow BM alumnus, where their relationship blossomed into a marriage on May 9th, 1998. Tom and Wanda enjoyed having family and friends around and also loved to take their grandchildren out camping and fishing even if it was just out to the gravel pit. Wanda made sure her family came first and that she wanted to see her Grandchildren grow up making their life’s to the fullest.

Wanda is survived by her husband, Thomas Broadway, her daughters Camie Gray (Michael) and Ginger King and stepsons Waylen (Christy) Broadway and Wesley Broadway. Wanda’s grandchildren meant the world to her and she always found ways to make them feel special. They are Kevin Gray, Travis Wehe King, Jordan Gray, Bailee Garner, Coleton Berlin, Tyler Berlin, Morgan Broadway, and her great-grandson Chase Wehe King, who at the very end was great at bringing a smile and a chuckle out of Wanda.

She is also survived by her mother, Betty Stewart, her sister Loretta Sallee, and sister-in-law Sheila Broadway. Wanda had many aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews and nieces whom she loved very much. Family was very important to her!

Wanda was preceded in death by her father Edward Stewart, her brother Andy Stewart, her grandson Steven Bryant and great-grandson Haygen Wehe King.

Wanda’s favorite scripture was Psalms 118:24 “This is the day that the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it.” While we have heavy hearts that she had to leave us so soon, we are rejoicing knowing that Wanda is no longer being held prisoner in her own body. She can once again do what she loved to do so much and that’s to dance and be footloose and fancy free!
