MCDERMITT — After dropping its last two games, the McDermitt High School boys basketball team bounced back in a big way this past Friday afternoon with a 70-31 win over Rimrock, Idaho.

The Bulldogs (7-6) last played on Dec. 16, and were at home for just the second time this season.

McDermitt reeled off 10 points in the first 60 seconds of the contest, with eight of those coming off turnovers by the Bulldogs’ run and jump press. The Raiders had trouble inbounding the ball, leading to a number of turnovers and easy layups.

Edgar Reyes had 10 points in the first eight minutes of play, including two 3-point field goals. His second basket from long distance gave the Bulldogs a 22-6 advantage. Troy McKee had eight points in the first quarter and Cauy Crutcher added six more.

McKee and Reyes combined for the first eight points of the second quarter, as McDermitt pushed the margin to 28 points at 36-8. The Bulldogs led by as many as 31 points after a 3-point field goal by Crutcher and a basket by Reyes.

Despite the large lead, McDermitt was in foul trouble throughout the first half, which continued into the third quarter. Just three minutes into the second quarter, Duane Horse fouled out and Rimrock scored eight points in a row.

After stopping the run with a timeout, the Bulldogs bounced back and finished the third quarter on a 13-2 run to lead 59-25.

A 3-point field goal by Crutcher to start the fourth quarter turned the contest into a running clock for the final eight minutes.

Reyes outscored the Raiders by himself with 33 points, McKee and Crutcher joined him in double figures with 14 and 13 points, respectively. Dominique Finley scored six points and Diego Navarro and Trenton Crutcher had two points apiece.

McDermitt was back on the floor on Tuesday against Pyramid Lake at home and results were not available at press time.
