After taking the Christmas break off, the Battle Mountain High School wrestling and basketball teams return to action next week.
The Longhorn wrestling team skipped the Sierra Nevada Classic in Reno and travel to Buhl, Idaho, on Friday and Saturday for the Indian Invitational.
Battle Mountain closes out the regular season with tournaments in Spring Creek (Jan. 13-14) and Fernley (Jan. 20-21).
The Longhorns will host the Northern 2A League Duals on Friday, Jan. 28, and Saturday, Jan. 29.
The Northern 2A Regional Championship is set for Saturday, Feb. 4, at Pershing County High School in Lovelock.
The top four finishers in each weight class advance to the NIAA 1A/2A State Championships at Wooster and Spanish Springs high schools in Reno and Sparks on Feb. 10-11.
The Battle Mountain girls basketball team is 1-1 in the Northern 2A and 9-2 overall.
The Lady Longhorns will get tested when they hit the floor on Friday at West Wendover at 6 p.m.
The road trip does not get any easier, as Battle Mountain makes its way to Ely and White Pine High School on Saturday for a 2 p.m. tip off.
The five-game road trip comes to a close on Tuesday, when Battle Mountain travels to Lovelock to face rival Pershing County at 6 p.m.
The Lady Longhorns do not play at home until Friday, Jan. 13, against Yerington.
The Battle Mountain boys are also 1-1 in the Northern 2A after splitting games with North Tahoe and Incline.
The Longhorns, 9-3 overall, make the same trip as the girls. The Longhorns play West Wendover at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Battle Mountain takes on White Pine at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday.
The Longhorns take on Pershing County at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
The Mustangs suffered their first two losses at the Rail City Classic last week. They have wins over Dayton, Churchill County, North Valleys and Carson.
The Northern 2A Regional Championship will take place in Winnemucca on Feb. 17-18.
The semifinal games will be played at Lowry High School on Friday, Feb. 17. The championship games will take place at the Winnemucca Event Center on Saturday, Feb. 18.
The NIAA 2A State Championship will be played in Las Vegas this year.
The opening round will be Friday, Sept. 24, at Durango High School.
The state championship will be a t a different venue, with UNLV hosting at the Cox Pavillion.
