Bulldogs’ Crutcher chosen as Eastern 1A Player of the Year

McDermitt High School junior Cauy Crutcher was named the Eastern 1A Player of the Year, which is chosen by the league’s six coaches at the end of the regular season.

Crutcher averaged 16 points, 4.1 rebounds, 5.7 assists and 2.3 steals a game. The Bulldogs finished 18-9 overall this season and 11-1 in league play.

McDermitt won the regular season title in the Eastern 1A, but was upset in the opening round of the Northern 1A Regional Championships by Sierra Lutheran.

McDermitt’s Jack Smith was chosen as the Coach of the Year. Jackpot was given the Sportsmanship Award.

After not playing a season ago, senior Troy McKee made his way on to the first team for the Bulldogs. McKee averaged 12 points, 9.3 rebounds and 1.5 assists a game.

The remainder of the first-team included Carlin’s Makai Haub, Jackpot’s Ricky Miramontes and Owyhee’s Trevor Shaw.

The Bulldogs’ Edgar Reyes was named to the second team. He scored 13.2 points a game to go with 4.9 rebounds, 2.0 steals and 2.4 assists a game.

The remainder of that group included Eureka’s Vinnie Padilla and Koltin Anderson, Wells’ William Johnny and Zane Rodriguez and Jackpot’s Jerry Martinez.

The honorable mention squad included Owyhee’s Ricky Baker and Kyon Walker, Wells’ Joey Gardner, Eureka’s CW Landrey and Jackpot’s Eduardo Avila.
