The Lowry High School wrestling team came up short in its quest to reclaim the Northern 3A regional championship on Saturday in Truckee.
Spring Creek took home the top spot with 247 points, while defending state champion Churchill County inched out the Buckaroos 214-207 for second place. Elko (196.50) was fourth and Fernley (108.50) and South Tahoe (94) were fifth and sixth, respectively.
Lowry qualified eight grapplers for the state tournament, including seven scorers, which will take place Friday and Saturday at Spanish Springs High School in Sparks.
The Buckaroos had five wrestlers reach the finals with three winning titles. The three champions were Isaiah Blanco at 106 pounds, Bryan Day (132) and Quint Bell (152)
Freshman Taylor Corak was second at 106 pounds and Cade Billingsley was the runner-up at 170 pounds.
Matthew Souza (120), Ryan Johnson (145) and Seth Hornbarger (160) were third and also advance to the state tournament.
The NIAA changed the number of wrestlers in each weight class from four to three that advance to state this year.
Cade Bell (126), Zack Peters (138), Joe Peterson (195) and Trent McKellips (220) were fourth.
The NIAA State Wrestling Championship gets underway Friday at 1 p.m. in Sparks.
