Obituary: Casey Van Diest

Casey passed away Thursday, Jan. 26, 2017, at the age of 61 in Winnemucca, Nev. He was born Dec. 19, 1955, in Bellflower, Calif. and grew up in Paramount, Calif. He moved to Winnemucca, Nev. and worked in the hay fields at his family’s ranch, later he moved to Aztec where he worked in the oil field, then in construction and he was the previous owner of Dutchman’s Hill Water Co. Casey moved back to Winnemucca in 2008 where he remained in the family home, working in the family business.

In heaven Casey reunites with his mother, Ardis Van Diest; his father, Garrett (Dutch) Van Diest; his brother, Michael Garrett Van Diest; and numerous beloved dogs. He is survived by his children, Joshua and Tim Van Diest and Vanessa Van Diest Starr; grandchildren, Bella Helena Starr, 11, Sophia Lily Starr, 8, and Violette Sparrow Starr; his twin sister, Karen Van Diest Dawley; sister, Sandi Van Diest; stepbrother, Jake Van Diest; sister-in-law, Pat Van Diest Sharp and Randy Sharp; and brother-in-law, Rod Ludington; nieces, Tausha Ludington and Michelle Van Diest Mitchison; nephews, Rod (Bumper) Ludington, Michael Van Diest, Richard Dawley, Christopher Dawley; as well as three grandchildren; numerous great nieces and nephews and extended family and tons of friends.

Cremation has taken place per Casey’s wishes and a private memorial will be held at a later date. Casey was loved by everyone who know him, he was always happy and always had a story to tell and he had a heart of gold. We will miss you so very much, Casey. We love you, too. BYE FOR NOW.
