The new realignment in high schools sports for the 2018-19 school year was adopted by the NIAA Realignment Committee and will have its final vote at the NIAA Board meeting in January in Reno.
While most of the realignment was centered around the 3A and 4A and the creation of a new 5A in southern Nevada, the smaller leagues saw changes as well.
Beginning in the fall of 2018 the Northern 2A will have nine teams in all sports. Battle Mountain, Coral Academy (Reno), Incline, North Tahoe, Pershing County, Silver Stage, West Wendover, White Pine and Yerington will comprise the league.
Coral Academy will be a new addition to the league after playing as an independent. Coral Academy visited Battle Mountain for a JV football game this past fall and will play the Longhorns in basketball later in the season.
The biggest change in the Southern 2A is the move of Democracy Prep (formerly Agassi Prep) to the Southern 3A.
As of the latest proposal, Adelson, Calvary Chapel, Lake Mead, Laughlin, Lincoln County, The Meadows, Mountain View and Needles will make up the eight-team league.
Postseason brackets have not been finalized as of now and will be at a later date.
The 1A Class will now be divided into four leagues (West, East, Central, South) instead of the current three. The West Division will include Coleville, Excel Christian, Pyramid Lake, Sage Ridge, Sierra Lutheran, Virginia City and Whittell. Sage Ridge does not play football.
The East is comprised of Carlin, Eureka, Independence (boys only), Jackpot, McDermitt, Owyhee and Wells. Jackpot does not play football in Nevada.
The Central Division will include Beatty, Mineral County, Oasis Academy, Round Mountain, Sierra Sage/ROP (girls only), Smith Valley and Tonopah. Oasis Academy will not play football.
The 1A South is rounded by Beaver Dam, Green Valley Christian, Indian Springs, Liberty Baptist, Pahranagat Valley, Sandy Valley, Spring Mountain and Word of Life. Liberty Baptist and Word of Life will not play football.
The Northern 3A will remain the same, with the exception of North Valleys becoming a full member. The Panthers join Churchill County, Dayton, Elko, Fernley, South Tahoe, Sparks, Spring Creek and Truckee.
The Southern 3A will be divided into two leagues. One six-team league includes Democracy prep, Del Sol, Mojave, Pahrump Valley, Somerset Losee and Western.
The other league will be seven teams and include Boulder City, Chaparral, Moapa Valley, Somerset Sky Pointe, S.L.A.M, Sunrise Mountain and Virgin Valley.
