With its squad closer to being back to full strength, the Lowry High School wrestling team won the Mustang Invitational this past weekend in Lovelock.
The Buckaroos beat out more than 20 teams from northern Nevada and finished with 178.50 points. Reed was second with 144 points and Spring Creek placed third with 136 points. Fernley (99) and Battle Mountain (93.50) rounded out the top five.
Lowry had six wrestlers in the championship match, with senior Cade Billingsley winning at 182 pounds. Billingsley won his first two matches by pin in a combined 53 seconds. He pinned Bishop Manogue’s Lincoln Hauk in the second period of the semifinals and he beat Reed’s Zachary Johnson 9-2 in the final.
Julian Esquivel (113 pounds), Matthew Souza (126), Bryan Day (138), Ryan Johnson (160) and Joe Peterson each finished second. Isaac Mori placed third at 106 pounds.

Lowry is off this week and returns to the mat on Dec. 27-28 at the Sierra Nevada Classic in Reno. The tournament features nearly 90 teams from the West Coast.
