Winnemucca plays host to annual Cody Louk Invitational

The Winnemucca Event Center was a busy place this past weekend, as 25 wrestling teams competed in the annual Cody Louk Invitational. Spanish Springs of the Northern 4A ran away with the team championship with 288.50 points. Host Lowry placed second with 170 points, as Ryan Johnson won the 160-pound championship for the Buckaroos. Matthew Souza placed second for Lowry at 126 pounds. Pershing County finished third in the team standings with 130.50 points. Joaquin Wanner at 170 pounds and Axel Gonzalez at 285 pounds each finished second in their respective weight classes. Fernley (127) and Elko (118) rounded out the top five. Yerington, Carson, Reed, Battle Mountain and Spanish Springs finished sixth through 10th. Cameron Thompson won the 113-pound weight class for Battle Mountain and Tristin Cordingly was second at 195 pounds. Battle Mountain and Lowry, along with much of northern Nevada will be in Lovelock on Saturday for the Mustang Invitational at 9 a.m.
