Buckaroo runners provide strong showing at Douglas Class Races to open 2017 season

The Lowry High School cross country team got its first taste of action this year on Friday, Aug. 25, at the Douglas Class Races in Minden. Schools throughout all four of Nevada's divisions took part in the race.

Lowry’s Robert Rangel posted a second-place finish in the 2.55-mile freshmen race with a time of 14 minutes, 32 seconds. Rangel was 16 seconds ahead of the third-place finisher. Galena’s Matthew Gordon won the race at 14:25.

Alex Herrera was 62nd with a time of 18:44 and Kylen Timko placed 81st at 21:40.

McQueen won the team championship with 56 points and Reed (92) was second. Bishop Manogue (96), Douglas (105) and Reno (109) rounded out the top five.

Josh Leveille and Caden Rorex were the lone Buckaroo runners in the sophomore race. Leveille placed 32nd with a time of 17:30 and Rorex stopped the watch at 17:46 to place 35th. Reno’s Gailson Hanokheliyahu won the race at 13:52.

Damonte Ranch claimed the team title with 42 points and Reno was second at 61.

Will Kracaw started off his quest for a third straight trip to the state championships, with a sixth-place finish in the junior race in a time of 14:11.

Teammate Christian Olson was 20th with a time of 15:48. Spanish Springs’ Daniel Horner won with a time of 13:28.

Spring Creek took home the team title with 35 points, while Spanish Springs was second at 50. Reno (62) placed third and Douglas (72) was fourth.

Hunter Albisu led the Lowry seniors with a 24th-place finish in a time of 15:22. Bryan Day finished 48th with a time of 18:07. Spanish Springs’ Andrew Ribeiro won the race at 13:15.

Spanish Springs (45) and Spring Creek (56) were the top two teams.

On the girls side, Kinsey Albisu finished 22nd with a time of 22:23 in her first race as a freshman on the 2.55-mile course. Spring Creek’s Kendra Lusk won the race at 17:05 and Damonte Ranch won the team title with 25 points.

Makyala Leveille provided a strong showing in the sophomore race, placing 21st in a time of 19:55. Damonte Ranch’s Marena Middleton (16:15) and Casey Legenbauer (16:19) swept the top two spots.

Reno topped the team standings with 34 points and Douglas was second at 42.

Becca Kuskie turned a sixth-place finish in the junior race with a time of 17:22. She is attempting to qualify for her third consecutive state championship. Spring Creek’s Rylie Lusk won the race at 16:22 and Reed was the team champion with 25 points.
