The Lowry High School girls soccer team adjusted its first couple weeks of the season this year, foregoing making the trip to the Spring Creek Jamboree to host an invitational this year. Churchill County, Fernley, Spring Creek and Battle Mountain also took part in the two-day tournament.
Near record-high temperatures greeted the schools this past weekend at Lowry, with the Lady Bucks finishing second on the weekend to Spring Creek.
Lowry went 1-0-1 in round-robin play on Friday, collecting a 9-0 victory over Battle Mountain. Shelby Garrison and Ruth Contreras each had a hat trick, picking up three goals each. Garrison also had an assist.
Hailey Hinkle scored twice and Erin Acosta scored for the Lady Bucks. Alexa Wolicki had two assists and Claudia Magana and Acosta each had one assist.
Whitney Willey had five saves.
In its second match of the day, Lowry played to a 1-1 tie against Churchill County. The Lady Bucks had a number of chances to score, but Garrison was the only Lowry player to record a goal. Lowry had 13 shots, but could only manage a tie against its league rival. Willey recorded eight saves in goal for the Lady Bucks.
Lowry took on Battle Mountain in the semifinals on Saturday morning and recorded a 3-0 win. The Lady Bucks had 42 shots in 60 minutes of play. Hailey Fernandez, Hinkle and Sam Diaz each had one goal. Garrison and Wolicki each had an assist.
Lowry took on Spring Creek in the championship and suffered a 1-0 loss to the Lady Spartans. Spring Creek finished third in the Northern 3A, splitting up the four Lake Tahoe schools.
Lowry is off this weekend and returns to action on Friday, Sept. 8, at Incline to open Northern 3A play at 5 p.m. The Lady Bucks travel to North Tahoe on Saturday, Sept. 9.
