High school football teams in Nevada have been practicing for the last week and half and now its time for the rest of fall sports to jump in.
Volleyball, soccer, girls golf and boys and girls cross country are all underway in Lander County and the rest of Nevada.
The Battle Mountain High School JV football team will see its first action on Friday , Aug. 25, when it hosts the Lowry JV at 4:30 p.m. at Tim Knight Field.
The varsity Longhorns will host Lowry that same night at 7 p.m. in a non-conference match-up.
The Longhorns will play eight games at home this year.
Battle Mountain stays at home for three weeks in a row to play The Meadows (Sept. 1), Lincoln County (Sept. 8) and Silver Stage (Sept. 15).
The Longhorns hit the road for the first time on Sept. 22 to play American Falls, Idaho.
Battle Mountain is back home for four straight contests against Yerington (Sept. 2), Pershing County (Oct. 6), West Wendover (Oct. 13) and North Tahoe (Oct., 21).
The regular season concludes with a road trip to White Pine on Oct. 26.
Yerington, Pershing County and Battle Mountain should once again vie for the top spot in the Northern 2A.
The playoffs begin on the weekend of Nov. 3-4. The NIAA State Championships are set for northern Nevada on Nov. 18.
The Battle Mountain volleyball team is under the direction of a new coach and will look to return to the regional playoffs for a second consecutive season.
Battle Mountain travels to Ely for a two-day tournament on Aug. 25-26 to begin the year. The Lady Longhorns host their annual invitational on Sept. 1-2.
Battle Mountain starts Northern 2A play with home matches against North Tahoe (Sept. 8) and Incline (Sept. 9)
The Lady Longhorns will follow two road matches at Silver Stage and Yerington.
Battle Mountains returns for four home matches against West Wendover (Sept. 22), White Pine (Sept. 23), Pershing County (Sept. 30) and Eureka (Oct. 6)
The Lady Longhorns close the regular season with four matches on the road.
The top four teams in the regular season standings qualify for the regional tournament. The top two qualify for the NIAA 2A State Championships.
The Battle Mountain boys and girls soccer teams begin their run to the playoffs with the Spring Creek Invitational on Aug. 25-26. The Longhorns are back on the road Sept. 1-2 in Ely at White Pine High School.
Battle Mountain makes its home debut on Tuesday, Aug. 29, against the Lowry JV.
The Longhorns open the Northern 3A season on the road against Yerington (Sept. 8) and Whittell (Sept. 9). Battle Mountain will be back home to play White Pine (Sept. 15) and West Wendover (Sept. 16)
For the second year in a row, the 2A and 3A are combining leagues.
Battle Mountain will be part of a league with West Wendover, White Pine, Pershing County (girls only), Yerington, Whittell, Fernley and Dayton. That division will get three playoff teams for the regional championships.
Spring Creek, Elko, Lowry, Churchill County, Sparks, South Tahoe, Truckee, North Tahoe and Incline make up the other division. That group will get five playoff teams.
The 3A Northern Regional Tournament will be held in Winnemucca, with first round action on Thursday, Nov. 2. The semifinals take place Friday, Nov. 3, and the championship games will take place Saturday, Nov. 4.
The state championships are Nov. 10-11 at a site to be determined.
The Battle Mountain girls golf team starts its season on Thursday, Aug. 31, in Ely at White Pine Golf Course.
The Lady Longhorns will also make trips to Wells (Sept. 7), West Wendover (Sept. 13), Elko (Sept. 20) and Round Mountain (Oct. 5).
Battle Mountain will host the 2A on Thursday, Sept. 28
There is no 2A regional championship, with teams moving straight to the state tournament, which will be held Oct. 9-10 in West Wendover.
