SNAP Representative: The SNAP Representative, formerly known as food stamps, will be at the Frontier Community Action Agency. They will be interviewing and processing all food stamp applications as completed with all supporting documentation ready. Vacation Bible School: The Christlife Family Ministries will be conducting a Vacation Bible School, located at 38 East Winnemucca Blvd., from 4 – 6:30 p.m. This year’s theme is ‘The Pirates Who Don’t Do Anything’. This school is for children ages 3 (if potty trained) – 12. We provide a comfortable safe environment for all participants giving them the opportunity for great fun and a valuable learning experience. Local families, Law Enforcement, and businesses have kindly provided prizes and discount certificates for the participants and their families. Parents are welcome to participate and observe. Healthy Year, Healthy You Seminar: Join Humboldt General Hospital for the August installment of its 2017 seminar series, “Healthy Year, Healthy You.” This month’s discussion, “Laser and You: Renewed, Confident and Beautiful,” will take place from noon to 1 p.m. in the hospital’s Sarah Winnemucca Conference Room. FBNN Mobile Harvest: The Mobile Harvest will be from 1:30 – 3 p.m. at the Winnemucca Indoor Events Center. All are welcome to stop by to pick up the fresh fruits and vegetables the FBNN has to give out. Remember that this is the only day and time to stop by and partake. National Safe Kids Technician Course: If you care deeply about children and want to make sure they are safe on every ride, consider becoming a nationally certified Child Passenger Safety (CPS) technician. HGH EMS Rescue will offer a National Safe Kids Technician Course. Class hours are from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday, September 12, through Friday, September 15; a safety seat checkpoint will finish out the instruction from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, September 16. There is a national certification fee as well as an additional site fee. These fees are payable to HGH on the first day of class. Nevada Good Sams Statewide Fall Rally: Come join the food, fun, craft fairs, and seminars. There will also be games like Horeshoes, Washer Toss, Mexican Train, Cribbage, Sequence, Ladderball, 31, and Zilch. The rally will be held at the Winnemucca Fair Grounds. OHV VIN Inspection and Registration Event: The Off-Highway Vehicle (OHV) VIN Inspection and Registration Event will be from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. at the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office, 50 W. Fifth Street, Winnemucca. This event is for anyone looking to register their OHV (Dirt Bike, ATV, Large ATV, Side-by-Side, Snowmobile, Dune Buggy, etc.) within the State of Nevada. Why register? Not only is it the law in Nevada to register your OHV, but also registration fees benefit the Off-Highway Vehicle community and Nevada as a whole in many ways: Improve trails and facilities, Protect the land through education and enforcement, Protect your vehicles

against theft, Keep Nevada dollars in Nevada, and encourage tourism.

Spanish Peer Survivors of Abuse Support Group: Meets every 2nd and 4th Thursdays of the month at the WDVS Office, located at 50 Melarkey St. Suite A, from 6 – 8 p.m. Child care is provided.



Humboldt County Community Bus: The senior center bus makes a regular trip to Ridley’s on Thursdays. Passengers are dropped off at 10:30 a.m. and picked up an hour later. Caregiver Support Group: Third Thursday at 5 p.m. at the Harmony Manor. Sponsored by the Humboldt Volunteer Hospice this group is intended to address the needs of caregivers through the difficult times of caring for a loved one with any disability from beginning stages to ending. HGH EMS Rescue Car Seat Fitting Station: Second Thursday of each month, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. — Humboldt General Hospital’s Emergency Medical Services Rescue department hosts a free car seat fitting station the second Thursday of each month at its 118 E. Haskell St. station. Nationally certified child passenger safety technicians provide car seat education, inspection and installation. If needed, car seats are available for purchase on a sliding fee scale from Humboldt General Hospital; however, any purchased seats must be installed at the time of the appointment. Zion Zone Youth Center, 3 p.m. — 6 p.m. weekdays — Zion Zone Youth Center is a free, non-profit, after school and summer program for the community youth. We provide a quality recreational enrichment program for youth ages 9 to 16 years old that need a safe, supervised environment after school and during the summer. Zion Zone Kids operates according to the Humboldt County School District schedule. Daily devotion and positive action lessons on why we don’t smoke, drink alcohol or use any illicit drugs. Snacks, crafts and organized group games are provided in the afternoons and homework assistance is available during the educational period. Fallon Naval Sea Cadets, a non-profit youth program designed to educate youth from ages 11-17 about the Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard. Education includes military bearing, marching, physical training, courtesy, responsibility, and much more. Many opportunities are available for advanced training. Meetings are one weekend a month at the Naval Air Station in Fallon. Volunteers, both ex-military and civilian are needed for instructors and chaperones. Free resistance exercise class: Each Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 10 a.m. a resistance exercise class is held at the Humboldt County Senior Center. Resistance exercise is a program designed for seniors proven to increase balance and strength using weights. There is no beginning or advanced level. All equipment including the weights is provided. Come join our group for a fun and healthy hour of toning and strengthening. Sponsored by the Pleasant Center and RSVP.

Need a Ride? The Pleasant Senior Center’s transit program is now open to the general public. The cost of a one way ride is $1.50 to the general public, with a subsidized fare of half price (.75 cents) for elderly and disabled. Up to two children (5 and under) ride free with a paying adult. Children 6 and older ride on the fare basis ($1.50) with an accompanying adult. Ticket books are available for purchase at the Pleasant Senior Center, or from the driver. The driver does not carry change, and tickets or rides purchased must be in exact change to the driver. People may call 623-6211 for information and to book a ride. A full Ridership Handbook is available at the Pleasant Senior Center.

Local Special Olympics chapter: A chapter of Special Olympics for children ages 8 — 22 is now available in Winnemucca. The group bowls in the fall school year and then will be doing track in the spring. Your athlete may choose to compete in one or all of the sports available. ESL classes at GBC: Free adult English as a Second Language classes are currently being offered at the Great Basin College Adult Learning Center, 5490 Kluncy Canyon Road, Winnemucca.
