National Safe Kids Technician Course: If you care deeply about children and want to make sure they are safe on every ride, consider becoming a nationally certified Child Passenger Safety (CPS) technician. HGH EMS Rescue will offer a National Safe Kids Technician Course. Class hours are from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday, September 12, through Friday, September 15; a safety seat checkpoint will finish out the instruction from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, September 16. HGH EMS Rescue Car Seat Fitting Station: Second Thursday of each month, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. — Humboldt General Hospital’s Emergency Medical Services Rescue department hosts a free car seat fitting station the second Thursday of each month at its 118 E. Haskell St. station. Nationally certified child passenger safety technicians provide car seat education, inspection and installation. We provide a quality recreational enrichment program for youth ages 9 to 16 years old that need a safe, supervised environment after school and during the summer. Zion Zone Kids operates according to the Humboldt County School District schedule. Daily devotion and positive action lessons on why we don’t smoke, drink alcohol or use any illicit drugs. Fallon Naval Sea Cadets, a non-profit youth program designed to educate youth from ages 11-17 about the Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard. Education includes military bearing, marching, physical training, courtesy, responsibility, and much more. Many opportunities are available for advanced training. Need a Ride? The Pleasant Senior Center’s transit program is now open to the general public. The cost of a one way ride is $1.50 to the general public, with a subsidized fare of half price (.75 cents) for elderly and disabled. Up to two children (5 and under) ride free with a paying adult. Children 6 and older ride on the fare basis ($1.50) with an accompanying adult. Ticket books are available for purchase at the Pleasant Senior Center, or from the driver. The driver does not carry change, and tickets or rides purchased must be in exact change to the driver. People may call 623-6211 for information and to book a ride.
