Aug. 1
Jesse Simpson pleaded guilty to battery. He was fined $1,000 + $140AA. In the alternative the defendant may complete community service.
Franklin Vern Hill pleaded guilty to DUI-1 and Failure to drive within marked lanes. He was sentenced to 30 days in jail with 28 days stayed for a period of two years on condition he serve two days. Credit given for two days jail time served. He was fined $400 + $125AA + $60 forensic fee + $100 Special DUI fee.
He was given credit for seven days already served in jail, which paid the fines and fees. He was ordered to attend a victim impact panel and to have a breath interlock device installed for 12 months on any car he drives. No alcohol, no controlled substances unless prescribed by a physician. No further criminal activity other than minor traffic violations. The defendant was also ordered to pay $100 reimbursement for the cost of his alcohol evaluation.
Aug. 2
Vicente Hiram Guzman pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of petit larceny. He was fined $1,000 + $140 AA. Justice of the Peace Letty Norcutt suspended $500 of the fine for one year provided the defendant pay restitution of $75 and have no further violations of the law. The defendant requested the remainder of his fines be converted to community service. The judge agreed and ordered 65 hours of community service.
Brenda Faye Bailey pleaded guilty to misdemeanor charges of DUI-1, driving while license canceled/suspended or revoked. and failure to drive within marked lanes. On the DUI charge, Bailey was sentenced to 90 days in jail with 88 days stayed for 2 years on condition she serve two days with credit for 18 hours already served. The balance of 32 hours was converted to either 64 hours of home confinement or 32 hours of community service. She was fined $400 + $125 AA + $60 forensic fee + $100 special DUI fee. In lieu of fines and fees she may perform another 69 hours of community service. DUI School and Victim Impact Panel both ordered. A breath interlock device was ordered installed on any vehicle Bailey drives for the next 12 months. Defendant ordered to no alcohol, no controlled substances unless prescribed by a physician, no further criminal activity. Defendant was ordered to attend six relapse prevention sessions. The fines and fees for driving without a valid license will run concurrent to the DUI-1 fines and fees and the charge of failure to drive within marked lanes was dismissed.
Charges against James Nichols for domestic battery — second offense were amended to domestic battery — first offense, pursuant to plea negotiations with the Humboldt County DA’s Office. Nichols pleaded guilty to the amended charge. He was fined $200 + $105AA + $35 special assessment. He was given credit for 3.5 days served in jail in lieu of paying the fines and fees. Nichols was ordered to attend 26 sessions of Batterers Intervention Counseling to run concurrent to counseling ordered in a separate case. Defendant ordered to no alcohol, no controlled substances unless prescribed by a physician. No further criminal activity other than minor traffic violations. Defendant was also admonished that possession, shipment, transportation or receipt of a firearm or ammunition may constitute a felony.

Misdemeanor charges against James Edward Oakley III for possession of less than an ounce of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia were dismissed on a motion by the Humboldt County DA’s Office.
Misdemeanor charges against David Swapp for possession of drug paraphernalia were dismissed on a motion by the Humboldt County DA’s Office.
Armando Patino Ramirez pleaded guilty to an amended gross misdemeanor charge of interception, interruption or delay of a telephone message. He was fined $250 + $105 AA + $250 public defender fee. He was given credit for jail time already served.
Richard James Bent pleaded no contest to disturbing the peace. In return, the Humboldt County DA’s Office agreed to drop charges of harassment/threat. He was fined $250 + $105 AA + $250 public defender fee.
James Randolf Ruiz Jr. pleaded guilty to failure to register as a convicted person, having no drivers license in possession, no proof of insurance and fictitious registration. He was fined $500 + $140 AA for count one, $100 + $95AA for count two, $600 + $140AA for Count three, $600 + $140 AA for count four $250 + $105AA for count five. The defense and prosecution made a joint recommendation that Ruiz. Jr. be given $1,500 credit for 15 days already served in jail. The balance of $430 was suspended for six months on the condition the defendant have no further violations of the law.
