High school football fans in Winnemucca will see some changes in the schedule for the lower classes at Lowry High School.
Due to four Northern 3A schools not fielding a junior varsity team this year (Sparks, South Tahoe, Dayton and Truckee), the JV team will be playing a majority of its games on Thursday evening instead of Friday.
The Lowry JV will still start its season in Battle Mountain on Friday, Aug. 25, but the schedule changes from there. The Buckaroos host Churchill County on Thursday, Aug. 31, and make the return trip to Fallon on Thursday, Oct. 5.
Lowry will travel to Elko on Sept. 7, and host the Indians on Oct. 12.
Two more home and home contest are set with Fernley (home Sept. 14) and (away Oct. 19) and Spring Creek (away Sept. 21) and home (Oct. 25).
Lowry will play a single game against Wooster and host the Colts on Sept. 28.
The Lowry freshmen will slide into the Friday time slot at 4:30 p.m. and play prior to the varsity contests. With the exception of the opening weekend, the freshmen and varsity schedules will be the same.
Lowry athletic director Don Walton noted more changes are possible before the start of the season.
