LHS fall season gets underway this weekend

The start of the Lowry High School 2017 fall athletic season is quickly approaching.

The school has released the starting dates for the fall season, with football already underway.

The Buckaroos host Elko in a scrimmage on Saturday, Aug. 19, and open the regular season in Battle Mountain on Friday, Aug. 26.

The first home game for Lowry is Friday, Sept. 12, against Spring Creek.

The rest of the fall sports teams can begin practice on Saturday, Aug. 12.

The boys and girls cross country team will meet at 8 a.m. on Aug. 12.

The cross country team begins its season on Friday, Aug. 25, at the Douglas Class Races. The Buckaroos will host their annual meet on Friday, Oct. 6, during Homecoming week.

Boys soccer will start at 6 a.m. and the girls soccer team will practice twice at 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. starting on Aug. 12.

In a change to the schedule this year, Lowry will start the season at home with a two-day tournament that will feature 3A schools from around northern Nevada. The Buckaroos will not take part in the Spring Creek Jamboree this season.

The Lady Buckaroo volleyball team will start the season on Aug. 12 at 8 a.m. at the high school.

The volleyball team opens its season on Aug. 25-26 at the Yerington Tournament. The Lady Bucks make their home debut on Wednesday, Sept. 13, against Fernley in Northern 3A play.

The Lowry girls golf team begins practice on Monday, Aug. 14, at 3:30 p.m. at Winnemucca Municipal Golf Course.

The Lady Bucks get their season started a week later with a doubleheader in Elko County. Lowry travels to Elko and Ruby View Golf Course on Wednesday, Sept. 6. The Buckaroos play Spring Creek Golf Course on Thursday, Sept. 7.

The lone home met for Lowry is Thursday, Oct., 5.

Freshmen and juniors must have physicals completed before taking part in tryouts.
