Buckaroos' Bryan Terry breaks 32-year old shot put record at Carson Invitational

The Lowry High School track and field team was back in action this past Saturday in Carson City for the Carson Invitational.

Bryan Terry paced the Buckaroo boys, as he set personal bests in the discus and shot put.

He won the discus competition with a toss off 166-2. His discus throw set a new school record that dated back to 1985 and was held by Pat McDade.

The senior collected the runner-up spot in the shot put at 50-7.

Junior Erick Lopez crossed the finish line second in the 100-meter dash at 11.48 seconds and he was third in the 200 meters with a time of 24.02.

Fellow junior, Nathan Kepler was seventh in the long jump with a leap of 19-3, eighth in the high jump, clearing the bar at 5-6 and eighth in the 300-meter hurdles with a personal best time of 45.93.

Sophomore Will Kracaw was busy in the distant races, placing fifth in the 3,200 meters with a time of 10:57.18 and 11th in the 1,600 meters at 4:52.91.

Senior Zachary White notched a personal best in the high jump, clearing 5-8 to place fifth. In addition, White placed 18th in the pole vault at 9-0. Brandon Dowd was seventh in the pole vault with a mark of 11-0.

Victor Rosas earned a top-10 finish in the 100-meters, placing ninth in a time of 11.73. Camerino DeLaMora (55.29) and Oscar Juanes (56.28) were 13th and 15th in the 200 meters and Jacob Frazier was 15th in the 100-meter dash at 11.99.

Hunter Albisu finished 18th in the 1,600 meters at 5:23.06 and Jose Vera placed 19th in the 400 meters at 57.18.

The 4x200 relay of Frazier, Timur Krapvin, Rosas and Lopez were third in a time of 1:34.62. The 4x100 relay of Dowd, Frazier, Rosas and Lopez were sixth at 46.33.

Lowry was sixth as a team with 55 points. Reed ran away with the team championship with 164.50 points. Spanish Springs was second with 81 points and Carson (75.50) was third. Elko (68) and Douglas (50) completed the top five.

Senior Kenadee Jeppsen continued her dominance in the high jump, as she won the event with a mark of 5 feet, 4 inches. The Lady Bucks claimed the top three spots in the event, as Hailey Hinkle set a personal best to finish at 5-2 and Shelby Garrison (4-10) third.

Jeppsen added a second-place outing in the long jump with a leap of 16-0 and she was sixth in the 300-meter hurdles at 51.28. Hinkle set a personal best in the 300-meter hurdles to finish second with a time of 47.06.

Rachel Garrison continues to improve in the throwing events, setting a personal best in the discus with a toss of 122-0 to place second. Garrison placed fifth in the shot put at 30-8.50.

Audrey Snow was fifth in the 200 meters in a time of 28.06 and 17th in the 100-meter dash at 13.52.

Rebecca Kuskie stopped the watch at 12:03.12 to finish seventh in the 3,200 meters and the sophomore placed 11th in the 1,600 meters with a time of 5:53.31.

Whitney Willey was 13th in the shot put (26-2) and 16th in the discus (80-0) and Hailey Fernandez was 15th in the 200 meters in a time of 28.75.

The girls 4x200 relay of Snow, Shelby Garrison, Fernandez and Julianna Gonzalez were second with a time of 1:50.75. The same foursome were fourth in the 4x100 relay at 53.59.

The Lady Bucks were fifth with 72 points, just 2.33 points out of third place. Reed won the meet with 113 points and Reed was second at 93. Spring Creek (74.33) and Spanish Springs (73) were third and fourth, respectively.

The Buckaroos are home today (Saturday) for the Lowry Invitational at 9 a.m. The Buckaroos travel to Fallon on Saturday, May 6 for the Northern 3A trials.

The NIAA Regional Championships will be held May 12-13 at Carson High School in Carson City. The state championships are set for May 19-20 at Foothill High School in Henderson.
