The Lowry High School swim team got back on the winning track on Friday, April 14, with dual wins over Sparks at Alf Sorenson Pool in Reno.
The Buckaroo boys beat the Railroaders 141-40 and the Lady Bucks were victorious 100-47.
A number of Lowry boys recorded first-place finishes with Liam Walls claiming the top spot in the 100-yard freestyle in a time of 56.36 seconds. The senior also won the 50-yard freestyle in a quick time of 24.76.
Nathan Perkinson led the way in the 100-yard breaststroke at 1:11:26 and was second to Walls in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 25.70.
Senior Garrett Gray notched a pair of first-place finishes in the 200-yard freestyle (2:21.37) and the 100-yard backstroke (1:09.45).
Freshman Hunter Lewis was first in the 200-yard individual medley at 2:55.59 and second in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 1:08.34, taking off three seconds off his seed time.
Junior Alex Shurtliff was first in the 500-yard freestyle at 7:43.41 and second in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:34.06.
Tristan Miller (2:35.57) and Aidan Maher (2:49.47) were third and fourth in the 200-yard freestyle. Maher placed second in the 100-yard backstroke at 1:34.45 and Justin Johnson was third (1:40.45) in the event.
Chance McAllister (1:11.78) and Kyle Cline (1:12.71) were third and fifth, respectively, in the 100-yard freestyle and Evan Jeppsen was eighth in the 50-yard freestyle at 32.81.
The boys 200-yard medley of Gray, Perkinson, Walls and Shurtliff were first in the dual against Sparks and second overall to Galena T 1:59.81. Galena won its dual with Spanish Springs and Hug at 1:58.51.
The 200 yard freestyle relay of Lewis, Gray, Perkinson and Walls was first against Sparks and second overall as well with a time of 1:48.19. Galena was the overall winner at 1:39.50. Miller, Maher, McAllister and Johnson (2:1.07) were sixth overall and second against Sparks.
Lowry’s C team of Jeppsen, Emmanuel Guillon, Cline and David Roberts were fourth against Sparks and ninth overall at 2:15.78. The 400-yard freestyle team of Cline, Guillon, Miller and Lewis were third overall at 4:53.63.
For the Lady Buckaroos, Bree LeBrun took home the top spot in the 200-yard individual medley at 3:05.31 and Hallie Caratzola won the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 30.45.
Adaya Goldblatt (2:55.76) and Ale Ibarra (3:14.76) were first and second, respectively, in the 200-yard freestyle. Mikayla Wright in a time of 26.87 and Breanna Barber ((37.66) were second and third in the 50-yard freestyle. Ibarra, Melissa Ramirez, Jennifer Milton and LeeAnn Barber were sixth, seventh, eighth and ninth in the 50-yard freestyle.
The 200-yard freestyle relay of LeBrun, Wright, Goldblatt and Caratzola were first against Sparks with a time of 2:16.46 and sixth overall to Galena and Spanish Springs. The 400-yard freestyle of Ramirez, Ibarra, Breanna Barber and Goldblatt were fifth overall and first against Sparks with a time of 5:46.96. The 200-yard medley relay of Caratzola, Ibarra, LeBrun and Wright were second to Sparks with a time of 2:47.57.
The Buckaroos were in Reno on Friday to face Incline in a dual. Results were not available at press time. Lowry travels to Reno and Northwest Pool on Saturday, April 29 to take on Sage Ridge at noon.
