While on group of Lowry High School track and field athletes went to Reno last Saturday, another group made the trip to Elko on Friday, April 14, for the Ward Coates Invitational.
Julianna Garcia won the 200 meters with a time of 29.58 seconds for a personal best and was eighth in the 100-meter dash at 14.86. Lily Pasquale was third in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 57.50 and seventh in the long jump with a leap of 12-9.
Freshman Rylee Clement was fourth in the high jump, as she cleared 4 feet, 6 inches. Sophomore Ashley Selgado was eighth in the discus with a toss of 71-1 and 16th in the shot put at 23-3.
Lucero Ruiz had time of 29.89 in the 200 meters and 71.37 in the 400 meters, both personal bests. Myla Ray had throws of 49-3.50 in the discus and 15-1 in the shot put and Xitlalic Valdez had marks of 34-2.50 in the discus and 11-7 in the shot put.
LaRae Blair had a leap of 11-1.75 in the long jump and Ariana Galindo-Godinez stooped the watch at 15.53 in the 100 meters. Carly Capellen had time of 32.84 in the 200 meters and Brenna Sowinski had a time of 34.40 in the 200 meters.
The girls 4x200 relay was third with a time of 2:06.55 and the 4x100 relay was fourth at 57.60.
On the boys side, Raymond Orzech won the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.74, while teammate and freshman Jace Mentaberry won the 300-meter hurdles in a time of 47.58.
Scottie Smith was second in the high jump at 5-6. Colby Terry was seventh in the pole vault, clearing 8-6 for a personal best.
Octavio Ruiz (13:07.82) and Jacob Means (13:59.56) had the top times in the 3,200 meters, while Julian Fimbers (5:27.37) and Christian Olson (5:28.87) led the way in the 1,600 meters.
Eddie Sanchez paced the Buckaroos in the throwing events at 36-3 in the shot put and 117-10 in the discus. Both were personal bests. Alex Contreras had a personal best throw of 31-8 in the shot put and 71-2 in the discus.
Colton DeLaMora had a time of 26.49 in the 200 meters and 12.97 in the 100 meters and Chapingidza Kavinga stopped the watch at 12.63 in the 100 meters.
