McDermitt track and field team stays busy in Oregon

The McDermitt High School track and field team was busy this past weekend with a pair of meets in Oregon.

The Bulldogs traveled to Crane, Ore., on Friday April 14, to take part in the Ranchers Invitational.

Freshman Jagger Hinkey turned in a pair of runner-up finishes on the day, including the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 53.80 seconds and the long jump with a leap of 16 feet, 7 inches. In addition, Hinkey was fourth in the triple jump at 32-5 and 15th in the javelin with a throw of 103-10.

Nash Pope placed fifth in the 800 meters with a time of 2:37.86 and the sophomore was eighth in the long jump at 14-8.

Jace Ramsey finished seventh in the 800 meters with a time of 2:40.63, 11th in the long jump with a mark of 14-8 and 27th in the javelin at 69-5.

The Bulldogs were eighth as a team with 27.5 points. Crane led the team standings with 125.50 points, while Adrian was second at 122.5. Mitchell-Spray (62.83) was third and Condon/Wheeler (50) and Long Creek (42.66) rounded out the top five.

On the girls side, sophomore Precious Masters finished fourth in the shot put with a throw of 29-10 and 13th in the discus at 55-2.

Shania Lenoir was 10th in the 200 meters with a time of 36.28 and 12th in the shot put at 24-3.

The Lady Bulldogs were 10th as a team with five points. Adrian ran away with the team title with 149.50 points. Monument was second at 68.

On Saturday, April 15, McDermitt moved over to Burns, Ore., for the Burns Lions Arlie Oster Track Meet.

Masters had the best finishes for the Bulldogs on the day, placing fifth in the shot put with a throw of 29-11.75 and 18th in the discus at 59-3. Lenior was 22nd in the shot put at 22-7.25.

Hinkey notched a 10th-place finish in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 54.02. He was 16th in the triple jump (31-1) and 16th in the long jump (15-1), to go with a 21st-place finish in the javelin at 90-10.

Pope placed 10th in the 800 meters with a time of 2:38.95, 20th in the long jump at 14-1.50 and 30th in the javelin with a throw of 65-04.

Ramsey finished 15th in the 800 meters at 2:46.99 and was 21st in the long jump with a leap of 140.50. He set a personal best in the javelin with a toss of 72-6.

McDermitt took part in the Eureka Invitational on Friday and results were not available at press time. The Bulldogs travel to Winnemucca on Saturday, April 29, for the Lowry Invitational.

The postseason begins on Saturday, May 6, with the Northern 1A Trials in Fallon. The Northern 1A Regional Championships take place May 12-13 at Carson High School in Carson City.

The top four finishers in each event qualify for the NIAA State Championships at Foothill High School in Henderson on May 19-20.
