The Battle Mountain High School track and field team made the short trip to Elko this past Saturday for the annual Wad Coates Invitational.
On the girls side, Mary Wolters had the top times for the Lady Longhorns in the 100-meter dash at 14.78 seconds and the 400 meters at 71.37. In addition, Wolters had a throw of 23 feet, 11 inches in the shot put.
Aubrie Schmidt led the way for Battle Mountain in the high jump, clearing 4-4. She had a jump of 12-3 in the long jump and ran the 100 meters in 15.50.
Samantha Broadway was the top thrower for the Lady Longhorns, with a toss of 24-1 in the shot put and 70-6 in the discus. Broadway also had a time of 93.17 in the 400 meters.
Hania Amezcua had the top Battle Mountain mark in the pole vault at 6-6 to go with a leap of 10-10.25 in the long jump. Adriene Burkhart had throws of 31-1 (discus) and 15-6 (shot put), while Justine Jury and Kynndra Penson ran the 100-meter dash at 16.21 and 16.62, respectively. Penson added a jump of 9-8.50 in the long jump
Maria Piedra had a time of 91.78 in the 400 meters and mark of 7-8.25 in the long jump.
On the boys side, Cody Ostler was second in the triple jump with a leap of 35-11 and the freshman had a mark of 17-5 in the long jump and a time of 25.59 in the 200 meters.
DeAndre Powell was third in the high jump, as he made his way over the bar at 5-4. Powell had a leap of 17-4.50 in the long jump and a time of 27.15 in the 200 meters.
Junior Eddie Morfin was the top thrower, with a toss of 37-11 in the shot put and 112 in the discus. Fabian Castenda was fifth in the pole vault at 8-6, while teammates Ryan Manning (7-6) was ninth and Thomas Amezcua (6-6) was 11th. Castaneda and Amezcua had tosses of 29-2 and 23-4 in the shot put.
Austin Wilkins had a time of 12.58 in the 100-meter dash and 25.97 in the 200 meters. David Chavez had the best time for Battle Mountain in the 200 meters, stopping the watch at 25.43.
Michael Malone was the top distance runner in the 800 meters (2:37.43) and the 1,600 meters (5:35.34).
Ryan Manning had a time of 2:59.81 in the 800 meters and Tristin Cordingley ran the 1,600 meters at 6:52.34 and threw the shot put at 32-11.
Battle Mountain travels to Eureka on Friday and closes out the regular season on Saturday, April 29, at the Lowry Invitational in Winnemucca.
The Northern 2A trials will take place Saturday, May 6, in Fallon and the Northern 2A Regional Championships are set for May 12-13 at Carson High School in Carson City.
