Leland Leon Smart was born September 17, 1972 in Winnemucca, Nevada to Janice Smart (Mother) and Stanley Smart (Father). Leland Passed away in Carson Valley Medical Center on March 30, 2017 at 44 years old.
Leland is survived by his children- Jacob Smart and Joshua Wasson; Great-grandchildren- Berdie Crutcher Smart, Leland Smart, Eileen Smart and Raymond Smart; Brothers- Tex Northrup, Earl Northrup, Edmund Smart; Sisters- Elora Smart, Idell Crutchrs and Joly Smart.
Leland worked as a ranch hand for a couple of ranches such as Circle Bar Ranch, Jordan Valley Ranch, Juniper Ranch and Greyson Ranch throughout the areas of Nevada and Oregon. He also attended The Native American Church. He enjoyed cooking, sports, roping, riding, he rode saddle bronc in high school, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, he was always polite and generous. He graduated high school and after attended The United Tribes Technical.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Janice Smart and Stanley Smart of Ft. McDermitt; Brothers- Clale Northrup, Danley Northrup, Stanley Smart Jr., Erwin Smart, Edmund Smart, Lymon Smart, Stanford Smart, Ferlin Smart, Chan Catches and Lindell Smart; Sisters- Janelda Harney, Janiyn S. Cagle and Imogene S. Thomas; Maternal Grand-parents- Birdie Crutcher Smart and Leland Smart.
Services were held in McDermitt with burial on April 6, 2017 at the Ft. McDermitt Tribal cemetery.
