The Winnemucca Special Olympics basketball team traveled to Reno for a basketball tournament at the Boys and Girls Club.
Winnemucca sent a skills set team. These individuals competed on different skills, dribbling, passing the ball and making baskets. The scores for each event was combined for an overall score.
That group of players included, Missy Byrd (silver), Dillon Maestrejuan (gold), Aimee Bailes (gold), Ricky Mouser (silver), Sandra Shepard (gold), Allivia Nimmick (gold), Mykenzie McMaster (gold), Jesse O’Sloan (gold) and Martin Hernandez (silver).
In addition, Winnemucca had a men’s basketball team compete. They won a gold metal. The team includes Adam Zamora, David Carlson, Delany Fry, Jacob Arant, John Hinchcliffe, Ray Johnson, Eric Barber, Aaron Hope, Michael Simpson, Justin Broadbent and Ronnie Broadbent.
The coaches for this event were Pam Barber, Michelle Aquilar, Corbin Funare, Anthony Barber, Mary-kate Barber, Chuck Lizer and Becky Barber.
The Special Olympics track and field practice will be Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4 p.m.-5:30 p.m. at the LHS track. The beginning date will be Tuesday, April 18.
