A small contingent of Lowry High School track and field athletes made their way to Sparks this past weekend for the annual Reed Rotary Invitational at Reed High School.
Senior Kenadee Jeppsen continued her strong start to the year, as he won the high jump with a mark of 5 feet, 4 inches. Teammate Shelby Garrison was second in the vent at 5-0. They were the only two competitors to clear five feet. Garrison also finished 10th in the 400 meters with a time of 63.45 seconds.
Sophomore Rachel Garrison earned a runner-up finish in the discus with a toss of 119 feet, 11 inches. Damonte Ranch’s Cassidy Osborne-Butler won the event with a throw of 12-3.
Garrison was fourth in the shot put out of more than 80 competitors. She had a distance of 33-1. The top three finishers were from Northern 4A schools, with Osborne-Butler winning at 43-3.75.
As a team, the Lady Bucks were 10th with 31 points. Reed won the team title with 138 points, while McQueen (88.5) was second. Damonte Ranch (83) placed third and Reno (64) and Galena (60.5) were fourth and fifth, respectively.
On the boys side, senior Brandon Dowd was second in the pole vault, as he cleared the bar at 12-6. Galena’s Jeremy Uithoven the event with a mark of jump of 13-6.
Fellow senior Bryan Terry placed fourth in both the shot put and discus. He was the top Northern 3A athlete in the discus with a throw of 47-7.25. Damonte Ranch’s Adonis Williams won with a toss of 53-10.75.
Terry threw the discus 151-1, just five inches behind third-0place TJ Mauga of Churchill County. Reno’s Keegan Feroah won with a throw of 157-10.
The Lowry boys were 13th as a team with 18 points. Reed cruised to the team championship with 178 points and Damonte Ranch was second at 97.
Lowry is off this weekend as part of spring break and returns to the track on Saturday, April 15, at the Northwest Invite at McQueen High School in Reno.
