Prior to last Friday, the last time the McDermitt High School football team played a game was before school started in August.
After nearly a month off, the Bulldogs traveled to Wells on Friday, Sept. 23, and suffered a 74-8 loss to one of the top teams in the Eastern 1A.
Wells scored twice in the first seven minutes of the game to take a 16-0 lead. The Bulldogs cut the deficit in half, jumping on a loose ball in the end zone after a bad snap by Wells. The Leopards answered 20 second later on a 34-yard touchdown pass. Wells added two touchdowns in the final 1:43 of the first quarter to take a 32-8 lead.
Wells found the end zone three more times in the second quarter, including a score on a blocked punt. With a running clock in the second half, the Leopards added three more scores to account for the final score.
McDermitt is back at home Saturday to face Owyhee at 1 p.m. It is Homecoming for the Bulldogs this week.
