Long-time Battle Mountain resident Mary Louise Hall Yepez died at the age of 68, on August 26th in Reno, NV, while recovering from surgery at Renown Medical Center.
Mary was born January 25th, 1948 in Chandler, AZ. She spent some of her early life in Hawthorne NV, and grew up all over Arizona, as a result of her family moving frequently for work. She graduated from Ash Fork High School in Ash Fork, AZ.
Mary moved to Idaho shortly after high school, and found her way to Battle Mountain in 1980. She worked at the Owl Club in the café until 1984, when she became a full time United States Postal Service worker. She raised two daughters, and married Battle Mountain resident Larry Yepez in 1996. She retired from the postal service on Feb 28th, 2011.
Mary was active as volunteer at the Battle Mountain Cookhouse Museum, the Quilter’s Guild, and Lander County Committee against Domestic Violence. She was an avid quilter, loved yard sales, thrift stores, fishing and gardening. She was deeply committed to her friends and family, especially her grandchildren, and rarely missed any milestone or event in their lives.
Throughout her life, Mary was known and loved as an intelligent, loving, funny, wise and accepting friend, and a dear sibling, daughter and mother of enormous strength and soul. She is survived not only by hundreds of friends and dozens of grandchildren and extended family members, but also by her daughters Carrie Mauldin and Dorothy Hopperstead of Reno, NV, and her sisters Susan Payne of Battle Mountain, NV and Myrtle McIntire of Post Falls, ID.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday Oct 1 3pm at Fellowship Baptist in Battle Mountain, NV, 1020 Chukar Lane. All with fond memories of Mary are encouraged to attend. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Battle Mountain Cookhouse Museum 775-635-8548, or find them on Facebook.
